Two days later, Tatienne was sitting in their suite when there was a knock on the door. Céline answered it and showed two women into their apartment. It was Chantelle and a woman with short hair who wore simple athletic separates. She looked a lot like Thomas.

Chantelle said hello. “This is Clem, my cousin.”

“Thomas told me about you and your brothers.” Tati shook her hand. Calm radiated from the woman, like a comforting blanket.

“I’m sorry I haven’t welcomed you yet. How are you settling in?” Clem asked.

“Fine, thank you. I haven’t had a vacation like this…well, ever.” Tati said. “It’s a gorgeous place.”

“We like it, too.” Clem smiled.

Chantelle spoke up. “Thomas is happy to have you here.”

Tati’s face grew hot. “He’s been so kind and helpful. To me and my sister.”

“Thomas said he’s taking you out for a big night in the city,” Clem said.

“He told you about that?” Tati ducked her head.

Clem chuckled. “He’s told the whole compound.”

Tati’s stomach twisted into knots. “That’s a lot of pressure.”

“Don’t worry!” Chantelle patted her shoulder. “It’s just a date. A chance for you to get to know each other better.”

“I don’t know. What if it doesn’t go well?” Tatienne realised she was getting emotionally involved. Her heart raced.

“I think you two are getting along just fine so far. A fancy night out won’t be that different.”

“I guess it feels like we’re getting more serious.” Could she do it? Take a risk and get closer to him?

Chantelle took her arm. “Relax, it’s going to be fun. And we’re going to take you to the Clothing Depot to find a dress for your date.”

“If you look good, you’ll feel good,” Clem added.

Tati put her shoulders back. Time to be brave, I can do it.

Chantelle turned to Céline. “Do you want to come?”

Céline shook her head. “I hate dress shopping!”

Clem spoke up. “Thomas said you could go swimming with him instead. What do you think?”

Céline nodded and went to get her swimsuit.

“How does Thomas do it all?” Tatienne shook her head.

Chantelle laughed. “He’s better at delegating than Charles is. And he likes his routines—including exercise and relaxation. It’s partly his personality, but it also comes from watching Charles and from losing his brother and father. He learned the hard way that life is precious.”

“I feel the same,” Tati said. “Losing my parents changed the way I live my life.”

“We all felt the loss of the Alpha and his oldest son,” said Clem. “It was so sudden, it messed with everyone. But Charles and Thomas stepped in and helped everyone through their grief, all the while dealing with their own. They kept the whole community together.”

“That’s a big deal,” Tati said.

“Thomas likes to stay in the shadows, work behind the scenes. The Lieutenant position is good for him. It lets him take a leadership role that also supports his brother as the Alpha,” Clem said.

Céline came out in her bathing suit and a cover-up. She was carrying her bathing cap and goggles with a towel.
